'China's support at UNHRC highly appreciated'
The Listeners Association of China Radio International in Sri Lanka
has thanked China for supporting Sri Lanka at the UNHRC sessions in
Geneva and said China's stand is highly appreciated by the grateful
people of Sri Lanka.
The Association in a statement issued yesterday said that Sri Lanka
was able to end the cruel war, which engulfed the country for nearly
three decades due to its strong and farsighted leadership and the
dedication of all. Since then all communities have joined hands as Sri
Lankans to steer the country towards development.
It is most regrettable to note the United Nations bringing forward
resolutions of this nature against Sri Lanka through the UNHRC, the
statement said.
"The speech delivered by the Chinese delegate at the UNHRC requesting
it to desist from bringing resolutions of this nature to disrupt Sri
Lanka's march forward, has set a new beginning for the whole of Asia.
China is a true friend of Sri Lanka which is strongly supporting Sri
Lanka's giant development effect to further strengthen the President's
independent foreign policy," said the joint statement signed by
Association President Indrananda Abeysekara and Executive Secretary
Madushan Kularatne.
