Slight increase in O-L success rate
Of the total 443,298 candidates that sat the GCE Ordinary Level
examination, 60.8 percentage has qualified for Advanced Level,
Examinations Commissioner General W N M J Pushpakumara said.
Compared to last year, this is a slight increase. The rate was 60.57
percent last year. Around 6,000 more students have qualified to follow
Advanced Level this year, he said.
According to the result analysis by the Examinations Department,
3,908 students have obtained A passes in all nine subjects while last
year, the number was 3,057. Meanwhile, 12,795 students have failed all
nine subjects. This was 14,411 last year. Subject-wise pass percentage
of this year has seen a slight increase in certain subjects.
Accordingly, pass percentages are 62.4 Science, Mathematics 55.3,
English 44.57, Sinhala 84, History 66.8, Tamil language 84.3, Buddhism
87.7 and Catholic religion 92. Last year, the pass percentage for
Science was 61.72, Mathematics 60.38, English 42.36, Sinhala 81.85,
History 73.3, Tamil language 81.8, Buddhism 80.2 and Catholic religion
89.2.

Udeshika Madushani Hettiarachchi of Visakha Balika Maha Vidyalaya,
Colombo obtained the island's best rank, according to GCE Ordinary Level
Examination results issued by the Examinations Department.
Anusha Nimrod Perera of Science Vidyalaya, Matale was place second
while two students obtained third place. They are Dilmi Samadika
Wimalarathne of Pinnawala Central College, Rambukkana and Bharatha
Madusanka Rankothge of Dharmaraja Vidyalaya, Kandy. The fifth place was
also obtained by two students from Kuliyapitiya and Matara. They are
Demintha Karunarathna of Kuliyapitiya Central College and Hiruni Udara
of Sujatha Balika Maha Vidyalaya, Matara. Hiruni Tharaka Sampayo of
Maliyadeva Balika Maha Vidyalaya, Kurunegala and Dilini Tharaka of
Sujatha Balika Maha Vidyalaya, Matara were placed seventh. Pushpika
Chathurangi Deshapriya of Bandaranaike Maha Vidyalaya, Gampaha obtained
the ninth place while the 10th place was shared by three students. They
are Gamage Sumudu Bhagya of Devi Balika Maha Vidyalaya, Sri
Jayawardenapura, Madusha Kalupahana of Visakha Balika Maha Vidyalaya,
Colombo and Navinee Sandalika Wimalaratne of Mahamaya Balika Vidyalaya,
Kandy.
