Matale CC in second successive win

Matale Cricket Club recorded their second successive outright win when they defeated Rio Sports Club Ambalangoda by an innings and 40 runs in their P. Sara Trophy Cricket Tournament concluded at Bernard Aluwihare Stadium, Matale.

Matale Cricket Club taking first lease of the wicket went on a run riot by amassing 405 for 9 declared in only 72 overs, averaging over 5 runs per over leading the run spree were Asanga Totagamuwa 68 (10 fours) Amila Rukshantha 63 (11 fours) and T. Perera 59 (10 fours).

Facing this huge total Rio Sports Club folded up meekly for 142. Following on with a deficit of 265, Rio SC fared a little better in scoring 221 all out but this could not prevent them from loosing the match by an innings. Left arm spinner Eranga Silva bowled well to capture 6 for 80.

Matale CC 405 for 9 declared (Asanga Totagamuwa 68, Amila Rukshantha 63, T. Perera 59, S. Ranga 45, Damith Rangana 34, Chanaka Colombage 27 not out, E. Silva 22, Tharaka Gimhana 4 for 53, Janaka de Silva 2 for 71).

Rio SC 142 (Pradeep Nandana 38, Renuka de Silva 34, Lochana de Silva 19, Sanath Ranga 3 for 8, Asanga Totagamuwa 2 for 44, Lahiru Madusanka 2 for 38, E. Silva 2 for 19) And 221 all out (R.M. Tharaka 48, S.S. Thilankahetti 42, Pradeep Nandana 30, T. Prasad 21, Janaka de Silva 20, Eranga Silva 6 for 80, Sanath Rangana 2 for 22).
