Fine century by Akila

Trinity College schoolboy Akila Jayasundera cracked a brilliant 131 with 20 fours and 1 six off 130 deliveries to guide United Southern Sports Club to a first innings win over Matugama Cricket Club in their P Sara trophy cricket tournament match played at Galle on Sunday.

Chasing Matugama Cricket Club's first innings total of 230 all out, United Southern SC lost two early wickets before two schoolboys from Trinity College Heshan Wanniarachchi (32) got together to put on 126 for the third wicket which put them on the road to recovery and over haul their opponents total.

Akila Jayasundera contributed more than half the side's total during his stay at the wicket and did not hesitate to punish anything lose.

Matugama CC 230 all out in 53.3 overs (Udesh Naderanga 28, Madumal Jayaratne 69, Dinesh Sanjaya 26, Nilantha Chandana 26, Chinthaka Gokula 2 for 33, Heshan Wanniarachchi 4 for 40) and 164 for 6 in 46.2 overs (Asanka Chandana 26, Kasun Nuwantha 61 not out, Chameera Menaka 21, Dinuk Marlon 3 for 30, Reshan Madusanka 2 or 36.

United Southern SC 273 all out in 60.4 overs (Dinidu Jayatilleke 32, Heshan Wanniarachchi 23, Akila Jayatillake 131, Chamidu Nissanka 31, Dinuk Marlon 23, Kasun Nivantha 4 for 94)
