Fatal crash
One commuter died while nine others were injured in a private
bus–tipper collision at Ambalawatta between Ratnapura and Embilipitiya
on Sunday.
The private bus plying from Ratnapura to Embilipitiya crashed with
the oncoming tipper and hit another lorry that was parked by the road
and stopped after crashing into a parapet wall. The three injured
passengers were rushed to Ratnapura hospital where P G Sugathapala of
Imaduwa sucumbed to his injuries. Six commuters are being treated at
Kahawatta hospital.
Two persons hit by train
Two persons died when they were hit by train in Anuradhapura and Nanu
Oya respectively on Sunday. W Sabhadewan of Radalla watte died when he
was hit by Badulla-Colombo train at Radalla. The other person died in
Anuradhapura New Town after knocked down by Colombo bound Vavuniya
train.
Police said the victim who has long hair appears to be about 24 years
and was in blue trousers and white vest. The body was sent to
Anuradhapura hospital morgue. The body is yet to be identified.
Two bodies found
A body of an unidentified woman was found in a canal between Nawala
and Narahenpita in Welikada yesterday. The woman appears to be of 35
years, was in a brown frock. Welikada police are investigating. Kandy
Police found another body of a man aged between 60-70 years in a pine
plantation near Mariamman Kovil in Hanthana West. Police said the body
is in a decomposed state. Kandy Police are investigating.
Arrested while illegally entering country
Three persons including a couple and a child were arrested by
Taleimannar Naval officers while they were crossing Sri Lankan border to
enter the country at Pesalei. They were handed over to Thaleimannar
Police and were due to be produced in court yesterday.
