Lankan teens to attend Leadership Summit at Harvard



Teens who are taking part for the summit

Since the year 2000 over 650 Sri Lankan teenagers have experienced this amazing week in the United States of America (USA) which has changed their lives forever. Since participating in these annual leadership summits 520 of them have entered foreign Universities for higher education. These include Yale, Harvard, Stanford, Brown, Upenn, Washington, Mt. Holliork, Notradam, Macalister, Clark, Wisconsin in USA, Universities of Sydney, Melbourne, Griffith, Monash, and UTS in Australia. Oxford, Nottingham, Warrick, Leeds, Sheffield, Kings, LSE and Sussex in UK.

In July 2012, Sri Lanka will send 34 promising Teenagers to the 'Leadership in Action Summit' at the prestigious Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. The programme will be conducted by People to People Organisation of The Dwight Eisenhower Foundation, founded in 1956 by the late US President, Dwight Eisenhower. From the many entries a final list promising student leaders have been selected by the Sri Lanka Country Director Ananda Rajapakse.

They are Udesh Dharmadasa , Thavisha Tudawe, Musaab Kassim, Amrit Alles, Natasha Nethicumara, Huzefa Gulamhusein, Vinuri Dissanayake, Saajid Wasik, Amresh Selvaskandan, Revatha Shah, Shivani Gunewardena, Takesh Kariawansa, Janith Abeysinghe, Cheranga Wickremaratne and Dewni Thilakawardhena from Colombo International School (CIS), Uvin Atukorale from Ananda College, Nayanthi Peiris from Bishops College, Dinuka Ariyaratne and Thulith Hewage from Royal College Colombo, Minuri Tissera from Wycherly International,Lara Muttiah, Imashi Fernando and Hasini Assiriyage from The British School in Colombo,Ramesh Fernando, Nelaka Dayawansa, Ashen Joseph, Pratab Naidu, Natasha Alwis, Thivaedee Narayana and Gowtham Gunesekeran from Asian International School (AIS),Taryana Odayar, Sachin Parathalingam (Headboy) and Danushika Sivanathan from Stafford International Schooland Maduni Wickremasinghe from Elizebeth Moir International School.These promising teens are the offspring of some of our leading Sri Lankan corporate leaders, who will aspire to lead our corporate sector into the next decade.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for those promising teens. Every year the Leadership in Action Summit brings together 300 promising student leaders from 30 countries around the world to live and study for a week at The Harvard University Law College in USA to explore and challenge their Leadership Skills. In addition, they gain an enhanced university resume with credit marks and preference for admission and scholarships to universities in America.

To attend this summit delegates must be between the ages of 16 to 19 years. Have a strong command of the English Language and be within the first 25% in class. Have an extraordinary academic career and be active in the school and community. Have the approval and sponsorship from their parents and be recommended by the school head. Registrations are now open for the 2013 Leadership in Action Summit at Harvard, Yale and Stanford Universities.
