Commercial Bank widens mobile access to online services

Account holders of the Commercial Bank of Ceylon now have access to internet banking facilities offered by the bank even while they are on the move, following the launch of a dedicated WAP Portal by the bank to facilitate access to a wider segment of mobile phone users.

The Wireless Application Protocol Portal facilitates online access via mobile phones by detecting the device used by the accountholder and configuring the settings accordingly, the Bank said.

Prior to the launch of the WAP Portal by the bank, access to internet banking via mobile phones by account holders depended primarily on availability of smart phones.

Nearly all the features available to registered users accessing the Bank’s online services via computer are now also available free of charge to those accessing the facility through mobile phones.

At present, Commercial Bank accountholders can check balances of their bank accounts, Commercial Bank credit cards and investment and loan accounts, and transfer funds between own accounts and to registered third parties who have Commercial Bank accounts, on a real time basis round the clock.

They can also make bill payments to over 25 bill pay companies including schools and credit card companies and make payments to stockbrokers in settlement of shares purchased, as well as check daily foreign exchange rates, order cheque books and change passwords. These facilities can be accessed through all five mobile networks.

“This latest service for accountholders represents a significant enhancement of convenience to many customers who are on the move and reiterates Commercial Bank’s commitment to constantly add value to its services,” the Bank’s Chief Information Officer Rohan Muttiah said.

“The Bank continuously upgrades its offering, taking into account the evolving needs of customers.”

Apart from internet banking, Commercial Bank offers telephone and mobile banking services and operates a large number of 356-day banking centres and a 24-hour banking centre at Katunayake offering customers convenient and year-round access.

Commercial Bank is the largest private bank in Sri Lanka, and the only Sri Lankan Bank listed in the world’s Top 1,000 Banks.

It operates a network of 214 service points in Sri Lanka and the country’s single largest network of 502 ATMs.

The Bank has been adjudged ‘Best Bank in Sri Lanka’ for 13 consecutive years by ‘Global Finance’ Magazine and has won multiple awards as the country’s best bank from ‘The Banker,’ ‘FinanceAsia,’ ‘Euromoney’ and ‘Trade Finance’ magazines.
