The beginning of a fruitful partnership was recently marked between
the Maskeliya Plantations Limited and World Vision Lanka (WVL), as the
CEO of Maskeliya Plantations, Sunil Jayakoddy and the National Director
of World Vision Lanka, Suresh Bartlett signed a Memorandum of
Understanding to implement development activities in selected estates
belonging to Maskeliya Plantations in the Nuwara Eliya District.
This event was held at the Maskeliya Plantations Head Office in
Nawinna, Maharagama, in the presence of senior management
representatives of both organizations, including Dushantha Delwita,
General Manager, Maskeliya Plantations and S.C. Sutharsan, Project
Director – RIWASH 2, WVL.
This Memorandum of Understanding will pave the way for the
implementation of various water, sanitation and hygiene programmes, as
well as capacity building and empowerment programmes for estate
communities to enhance their living standards. A sub agreement was also
signed at this occasion by both parties to provide a Water Supply System
for the community living in Moray Division of Moray Estate.
World Vision Lanka has a long history of working in the Plantation
Sector.
Its Ambagamuwa Area Development Programme (ADP) started almost 15
years back in 1997. Nuwara Eliya, Bogawantalawa and Pathana ADPs
followed in 2007, 2009 and 2010 respectively. Walapane ADP is to
commence work soon.
This MOU came about as a result of the Australian Government funded
‘Rural Integrated Water Sanitation and Hygiene Project 2’ (RIWASH 2)
implemented by World Vision Lanka in the Nuwara Eliya District. |
