Cash, gold stolen from pawn shop

Four persons had forcibly entered a leading pawn broker's shop at Maharagama town on Sunday and taken away cash and gold valued at over Rs 16 million. Police Spokesman SP Ajith Rohana said that four persons wearing helmets and carrying weapons, had entered the shop around 2pm and taken the valuables and the money after ransacking the safe.

Police emergency call centres in the provinces

The Police Department is to decentralise operations of the 119 Police emergency call service centre while establishing emergency call centres in the provinces. “Providing an efficient and a productive service to the public is the main objective of this programme,” Inspector General of Police N K Illangakoon said.
