World Water Day seminar
The World Water Day seminar organized by the Sri Lanka Medical
Association (SLMA)will be held on March 22 from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm at
the Lionel Memorial Auditorium, No. 6,Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo 7.
Public health dental specialist Dr. Irosha Perera of the Dental
Institute, Colombo will speak on "Teeth and tears behind the smile-
Burden from dental fluorosis".
A SLMA press release states the objective of this seminar is to
increase awareness of the public,professionals and policy makers on the
growing health burden form unsafe water and to discuss potential long
term sustainable solutions.
Session 1 will feature the following programme: Central
Epidemiological Unit chief epidemiologist, Ministry of Health and Sri
Lanka College of Community Physicians vice president Dr. Paba
Palihawadena will speak on "Water and health:the burden from
communicable disease from 2.35 pm to 2.50 pm.Dental Public Health
Specialist,Community Dental Unit, Colombo Dental Institute Dr. Irosha
Perera will speak on "Burden from dental fluorosis: the teeth and tears
behind the smile" from 2.50 pm to 3.00 pm. Colombo University Clinical
Medicine Department Professor Saroj Jayasinghe will speak on
contaminated water and non-communicable disease from 3.00pm to 3.10 pm.
The talks will be followed by a discussion.
Session 2 will feature the following programme:Water Supply and
Drainage Ministry Director- Development Chandika V. Dias will speak on "
Providing water for all:is it possible in the NCP ?.Colombo University
Economics Department senior lecturer Dr. T.L. Gunaruwan will speak on
"Economics of building townships to give' water for all' from 3.30 pm to
3.45 pm. This will be followed by the concluding session. |
