New building for AG's Department

President Mahinda Rajapaksa will open the newly built five storeyed building of the Auditor-General's Department at Battaramulla today.

The Department currently at Independence Square was established in 1899.

It is responsible for the audit of accounts of all departments of the government, provincial councils, local authorities and public corporations and of any business or other undertakings vested in the government under any written law.

It has to report to Parliament annually and as and when necessary on the discharge and performance of the duties and functions for the accomplishment of the above mission.
