Housing project a boon for SL families – Wimal

The one million housing project of the Janasevana programme has benefitted a large number of Sri Lankan families, Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa said.

The minister said so addressing an event organised to hand over land and housing deeds to over 2,000 beneficiaries under the one million housing project.

Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Ministry is implementing the project.

The one million housing project was launched under the Mahinda Chinthana Idiri Dekma national policy which pledges to provide safe and healthy shelter for every Sri Lankan family within the next few years.

This national programme had provided access to safe and healthy shelter and basic services which has been recognised by the government as essential to a person’s physical, psychological, social and economic well-being.

“Sri Lanka is lucky to have President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the leader as he done much for the well-being of the people,” Weerawansa said.
