‘Certain Western countries trying to divide country’

“If United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva implements the proposal presented by the US regarding the alleged human rights violations in Sri Lanka, it will result in the division of the country. The US is trying to divide the country by presenting false allegations against Sri Lanka with the aim of granting a part of the country to Rudra Kumar. But,the patriotic Sri Lankans will never allow that to happen, Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena said.

The minister was addressing a recent protest organised by Christians in the Polonnaruwa district after the holding of a special mass against the allegations presented by the United States on human rights in Sri Lanka.

“We all have suffered due to the terrorist war for nearly three decades. During that dark period, Sinhalese,Tamils and Muslims and all other races in Sri Lanka become targets of terrorism.

“However,we are now enjoying peace and harmony after winning the war against terrorism,” the minister said.

“The capitalist countries, including the US, are using various means to destroy the peaceful environment and stifle development and progress of the Asian countries.

“The US has presented these allegations to please terrorist agents in certain Western countries. They are trying to revive terrorism in Sri Lanka. So, it is our bounden duty to stand united against these foreign elements in order to protect to protect our independence, by shedding petty differences”, he said.
