Lanka's harmonious ethnic relations:
'Census good indicator'

Prime Minister D M Jayaratne said the present census shows how all
ethnic groups in this country live in peace and harmony.
Prime Minister D M Jayaratne was addressing officers of the Census
Department at the Prime Minister's official residence at Visumpaya on
March 10.
He said that the Tamil and Muslim population in the Northern and the
Eastern Provinces is smaller when compared to the population living in
other parts of the country.
He said developing countries give priority to conducting a census as
it is very important for the progress of a country. Modern technology is
used nowadays for this task.Therefore, people need to provide accurate
and correct details to officers to make the census a success.
Census Department Director General Suranjana Vidyaratna, Colombo
District Secretary Kamal Padmasiri and Directors of the Census
Department H R Gunasekera and WMMAS Prema Kumara were present on the
occasion. |
