Somawathiya shrine access road construction costs Rs 2.7b

Construction of the access road to the sacred Somawathiya shrine at a cost of Rs 2.7 billion will commence on March 11. The road from Polonnaruwa up to the Somawathiya sacred shrine via Thambhala and Sungawila (40 kms) will be developed with funds from Bank of Ceylon.

The ceremony in this regard will be held at Hewagama junction, Polonnaruwa under the patronage of Ports and Highways Deputy Minister Nirmala Kothalawala on March 11 at 9.30am. Work includes construction of drains, culverts and bridges.
