Adhishtana Pooja on Wednesday
A countrywide Adhishtana Pooja will be held on Wednesday (Poya day)
at 7pm in all temples to invoke blessings on the country and the people.
The Adhishtana Pooja will be held for all to get together as one
nation to defeat elements against the country. The public can
participate in this event.
Dhamma Deshana
The Sri Lanka ex-Air Force Women's Association, formed on March 8,
five years ago, has organized a Dhamma Deshana on the Buddhist channel
to coincide with International Women's Day from 5 - 6 pm on March 8,
2011, conveying a special message to Sri Lankan women.
Death of champion cyclist
The death occurred of champion cyclist Ivan Ratnayake, who in 1954,
peddled his way to history by cycling from Colombo to London. He passed
away on March 2. He was a media personality who worked on the 'Lankadeepa'
and 'Daily Mirror' editorials.
His funeral took place on March 4, 2012 at Wennappuwa.
Hotel manager injured in road mishap

A motor vehicle veered off the road and hit a hillock before turned
turtle and injuring a manager of a tourist hotel, travelling in the
vehicle at Omaragolla on the Colombo - Trincomalee road. The car was
badly damaged.
Gokarella police are conducting investigations.
Man attempting Guinness record dies

A Civil Defence Force personnel aged 24, died on admission to Kantale
hospital after attempting to set up a new Guinness record by being
buried alive in a 10 feet deep pit at Wan - Ela in Kantale on Sunday.
The youth had dug a trench earlier on the day and told his family to
bury him around 9 am . He had also instructed them to fill it with wood
and soil and light a fire on top of the mock grave and to open it at
4pm. When the family dug open the mock grave in the evening the youth
was found unconscious. He was rushed to the Kantale hospital but died on
admission. Wan Ela police are investigating.
No street lights

The residents of Sainthamaruthu sea front areas complain that there
are no street lights for more than three years in the area.
Since the street lights are not available, burglaries and thefts are
on the increase.
They request the CEB and Kalmunai Municipal Council authorities to
provide street lights to these villages and the authorities to take
immediate action to protect people and their assets.
Programme to enhance computer education

A programme to teach computer education in Maligaikadu Al Hussain
Vidyalaya in Kalmunai Zonal Educational has been expedited by the School
Development Society.
Under this programme many students have been provided with computers
to improve their computer skills.
Steps have been also been taken by school development society to set
up a computer learning centre at school.
Body found
Akuressa Group cor
The body of a man was found in a rocky place at Yatulla in Deniyaya
on March 3. At the Magisterial inquest held by the Acting Magistrate,
Morawaka, the body was identified as that of R.Wijitha of Yatulla in
Deniyaya, a father of three. The postmortem wasto be held yesterday. The
Deniyaya Police are investigating.
Panel discussion
The Sri Lanka Women’s Conference has organized a panel discussion on
Women, Peace and Re-construction to mark the International Women’s Day
on March 8 at 10am at the Mallika Niwasa Samithiya, 45, Visakha Road,
