Rescuers work late on Saturday at the scene where two trains crashed head-on in Szczekociny, southern Poland, killing several people and injuring more than 60 passengers. The head-on collision took place at 2100 hrs local time (2000 GMT) between two trains travelling
on the same track, a Polish railways official said. One was en route to the southern city of Krakow from the capital Warsaw, while the other was travelling to the capital from the
south-eastern city of Przemysl. AFP


Oil falls after Saudi pipeline fire rumour doused

Oil prices reversed course on Friday after Thursday's rumour of a Saudi pipeline fire sent crude soaring. After the Saudis, the world's largest exporters of crude, denied the rumours, prices sank in all major markets. New York's main contract, West Texas Intermediate crude for delivery in April, shed $2.14 to $106.70 per barrel, one day after hitting a nine-month high at $110.55.

IAEA gropes for way around Iran impasse

The UN atomic agency's board will be looking for a way out of its impasse with Iran after two fruitless visits probing Tehran's suspected nuclear weapons drive, in a meeting starting Monday. In a report sent to International Atomic Energy Agency member states on February 24, watchdog chief Yukiya Amano said that after the two visits, on January 29-31 and February 20-21, “major differences” with Tehran remained.

Bodies of Marie Colvin, Remi Ochlik arrive in Paris

The bodies of two Western journalists killed in Syria were being returned to Paris overnight, France's ambassador to Damascus Eric Chevallier told AFP. "I confirm that... the bodies of Remi Ochlick and Marie Colvin are aboard the Air France flight which has just left Damascus bound for Paris," he said.

Obama warns against premature Iran strike

‘As president of the United States, I don’t bluff’:

US President Barack Obama warned on Friday against a premature attack on Iran, while Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu insisted his country had the right to self-defense and needed room to maneuver. But in an apparent nod to Netanyahu ahead of key White House talks on Monday, Obama said if sanctions failed to curb Tehran's nuclear ambitions, US military action against Iranian nuclear facilities should not be ruled out.
