Americares Int’l gives Rs 118 m for Mullaitivu hospital development
Americares International, a Non Governmental Organization in the US,
has agreed to provide Rs 118 million to develop the Mullaitivu District
General Hospital.
Americares arrived in the island during the post tsunami period to
develop coastal health institutions.
It has already completed development work on the Trincomalee hospital
at a cost of Rs 100 million.
They had stayed back to develop the Mullaitivu hospital at the
request of Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena, a Health Ministry
release said.
Under the proposed development programme, Americares has planned to
build a two storeyed surgical ward, two storeyed doctors’ official
quarters, a three storeyed official quarters for specialist doctors and
also equip the surgical ward with an ICU and medical equipment.
The MoU was signed by Health Ministry acting Secretary Dr Palitha
Mahipala and Americares Sri Lanka representative Ramani Kumari Perera at
the Health Ministry recently. Americares Project Manager Ranjith
Hemachandra, Dr Thushara Perera and Dr R K S Wijesuriya were also
present on the occasion. |
