Defeat of LTTE, bitter pill to swallow for some - Wimal
Ishara Mudugamuwa
“The main reason for the accusations against Sri Lanka on human
rights violations is the defeat of the LTTE”, Construction, Engineering
Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa said.
Addressing the media on Friday at the National Freedom Front(NFF)
Office, minister Weerawansa said that the LTTE-friendly countries never
expected such a defeat.
'They really cannot stomach the defeat of the LTTE terrorists at the
hands of the brave Security Forces. Now they are trying to pressurise
our President and the Armed Forces who brought peace to the country.
“The US and certain Western countries are trying to undermine the
victory which we gained by defeating the terrorists. Some pro-LTTE
elements and organizations in Sri Lanka are also happy about the
accusations of human right violations, because they wanted to divide Sri
Lanka and create a Tamil Eelam.” he said.
He also said that some Western countries and the US want to instal a
government which respects their views.
They have realized that under the leadership of President Mahinda
Rajapaksa, they cannot fulfill their objectives.
He further said that certain people are saying that this accusation
is only against the government and not against the country.
'If they look into this matter in a proper way devoid of politics,
they would be able to grasp the real situation.
“If those Western forces really want to ensure justice for the Tamil
people, they should also accuse the LTTE.
'Because the LTTE destroyed the democratic rights of the Tamil people
and killed a large number of innocent civilians, including children.
Accusations of human rights violations have never been brought
against the US,” he said.
“All Sri Lankans should get together to defeat these accusations and
conspiracies hatched against Sri Lanka.
The NFF organized a number of awareness programmes for the people
about such conspiracies against the motherland by people with vested
interests.
"The NFF plans mass protests to be held on March 13 in Colombo”, he
said. |
