Children playing with explosive device escape unhurt

Police took into custody a round-shaped object believed to be an explosive device without the attachment of a pin at Kokkawila, Mugunuwatawana, Chilaw recently. A caller, P D Ajith Wimalasuriya had informed the police that three children aged six, nine and 10 were playing with an unusual ball picked up by the children who had found it under a tunnel.

The children had escaped imminent disaster when the police arrived at the scene and took into custody the ball and later defused it at Chilaw.
