Lankans keep alive hopes of entering finals

The Sri Lankans kept their chances of entering
the best of three finals flickering when they held India to an
exciting tie in their Commonwealth Bank tri series match under
lights at the Adelaide Oval, here today. Both teams made 236 in
their 50 overs. The Lankans could have won this game had Thisara
Perera took a return catch offered by Mahendra Singh Dhoni when the
batsman was 11 and the score 135. Dhoni who made a valiant effort to
give his team another victory remained unbeaten on 55 in 69 balls
with 3 fours and a six and was the player of the match.

Greening new Sri Lanka coach
Phil Greening, an Englishman from the Northern
Hemisphere will share Sri Lankan sunshine with the rugby national
pool as he has been appointed as the new national rugby coach in
line with few other changes made by SLRFU president Asanga
Seneviratne . Former coach of English Premier League team,’ Bath and
former English National Sevens assistant coach Phil Greening's
service will be utilized at an expenditure of Rs 20 million for a
two year contract.

Peterites take major honours in drawn match
St.Peter’s College recorded a first innings win
over S Thomas College Mount Lavinia in their under 19 inter school
match which concluded at Mount Lavinia yesterday with the match
ending at 4 pm due to rain. Peterites scored 326 for eight
(declared) in their first innings which gave them a first innings
lead of 146 runs. Left hander Ali Khan scored 35 runs while Right
hander Dushan Hemantha helped St Peter’s College with 34 runs. Right
arm leg spinner Madushan Ravichandrakumar (five for 69) and Rishane
Mathangaweera (three for 58) were the most impressives of the
Thomian bowlers.
