Deyata Kirula offers war widows self-employment

Nearly 250 widows have been offered self-employment aid at a cost of
Rs 20,000 per head by the Ministry of Child Development and Women's
Affairs stall at the Oyamaduwa Deyata Kirula National Exhibition site
recently.
The self-employment package had consisted of sewing machines,
weighting scales, weaving material and appliances, furniture, etc
depending on the requests and the requirements of the prospective
applicants, mostly from war-battered border villages in the district.
Commemoration
A series of pinkamas for the commemoration of the 30th death
anniversary of Ven Balangoda Sri Sumanajothi Nayaka Thera, former
Viharadhipathi, Siri Sudarsana Maha Viharaya, Thumbagoda in Balangoda
and Chief Sangha Nayake thera of Sabaragamuwa Province of Amarapura Siri
Saddhamma Vansa Maha Nikaya and to invoke blessings on 85th birth
anniversary of present Viharadhipathi Rajakeeya Panditha Sri
Sudhammavansa Maha Nayaka Thera of Amarapura Siri Saddhamma Vansa Maha
Nikaya and on the government and the country, will be held at the Sri
Sudarsana Maha Viharaya on February 17 and 18.
Jathika Saviya funds to improve school facilities

A part of the funds allocated to be utilized in carrying out the
'Jaathika Saviya-Gama Neguma' projects in the Kandy electorate of
Yatinuwara, had been used for the improvement of pre-school facilities.
Temples that had been selected, had received a sum of Rs 50,000.
This donations were to mark the 2600th Sambuddhathwa Jayanthiya, it
is said.
Past Kotahena Shepherdians get-together
A half day get-together of Past Kotahena Shepherdians will be held at
the Convent premises on Sunday, February 19 from 1 p.m, to 6 p.m.
organised by the PPA.
It is open to members, non members and their families. The program
will include a fancy dress competition, singing, sports and cultural
activities, mock class sessions, trade stalls and a food fiesta.
The organisers said the fiesta will also help the past students,
young and old, relive their school days in the ambience of their school

Developing Ayagama

Rs. 50 million has been granted by the Asian Development Bank for the
development of Ayagama, said Ayagama Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman L R A
Pushpakumara.
All efforts will be made to develop the town with this amount, he
said.
Development projects
K G D de Silva Kamburupitiya group corr
A series of development projects worth Rs. 32 million has been
completed in the Kamburupitiya Divisional Secretariat area last year.
More projects have been proposed this year and some have already
commenced, said Kamburupitiya Divisional Secretariat Planning Director S
B Deepli.
Electricity to North
The Luxapana national grid will be connected to the Chunnakam
generators to supply power to the entire Northern province early next
year.
In addition, wind mills will also generate power in the North, said
Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka addressing the
officers of the Electricity Board at the Veerasingham Hall, Jaffna. He
said the demand of the people for power has increased. The demand will
be met early next year.
Market building opened
Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development Minister
Douglas Devananda opened a two- storey market building in Thinnavelly on
February 7 where vegetables will be sold. This building was built at a
cost of Rs. 1,140,000. |
