Dengue control programme in CMC

A special dengue control programme which commenced yesterday at the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) will continue today with the coordination of the Health Ministry, Defence Ministry and Disaster Management Ministry, a Health Ministry spokesman said.

According to the spokesman, over 1,500 persons will take part in this programme which will be carried out by members of the Armed Forces, PHIs and other officials.

Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena will participate in the programme today at Serpentine Road, Borella along with Disaster Management Minister Mahinda Amaraweera.

The CMC area is the most affected area in the country by dengue. The highest number of dengue cases and deaths were reported from the area during the past years. CMC is the most populated area in the country. Several schools, state and private institutions are located within the CMC. A large number of people visit CMC daily for employment and other purposes, he said. Over 4,800 dengue cases and 18 deaths have been reported from all parts of the country this year.
