Shramadana to eradicate dengue
A large scale Shramadana campaign was organized by the chairperson of
the Maharagama Urban Council, Kanthi Kodikara, at the Maddumagewatte
Housing Scheme in Nugegoda, to eradicate dengue mosquitoes with the
support of Kohuwala Police.

Army officers and Civil Defense Committee members also assisted in
the campaign.
Kanthi Kodikara speaking at the function, said her officials are
involved in the eradication of dengue mosquitoes in keeping with the
Mahinda Chinthana vision for the future.
She said the Maddumagewatte housing scheme will be provided with all
facilities, including collection of household garbage, maintenance of
internal roads and construction of a play ground.
Maharagama UC member Saman Senathira also participated in the
Shramadana campaign organized by the Maddumagewatte Welfare
Association's Chairman Sanath Athukorala, with the assistance of its
Secretary, Naufer Mohamed, Treasurer Keerthi Siriwardena and senior
members K Sivalingam, Mervin Benns, Wijeratna Muthukuda, Nimal Perera
and Arasu Kandasamy.
The whole day of the Shramadana had been spent with the cutting of
tree branches, digging of pot-holes and roads repaires, while new bulbs
were fixed to street lights.
The previous night's blood tests for filaria was conducted for
residents of the scheme by the medical section of the Maharagama UC.
