CPA delegation calls on Speaker

A special delegation of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association
(CPA)met Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa at the Parliamentary Complex yesterday
to discuss preliminary arrangements of the 58th CPA conference which is
scheduled to be held from September 7 to September 18.
The CPA delegation for the pre- conference visit consisted of CPA
Executive Committee chairman Sir Alan Haselhurst, CPA secretary general
of CPA Head quarters Secretariat Dr William F Shija and assistant
director events organizations of CPA head quarter Secretariat Tina
Christine Ngwira.
Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody also participated in the meeting
held to discuss the preliminary arrangements for the CPA conference. The
delegation also met the Conference Coordinator and the Heads of the 16
Sub Committees of the 58th CPA conference.
The delegation paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister D M Jayaratne,
Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa
lastmorning.
During the pre - conference visit from February 14 to February 17,
the CPA delegation is scheduled to inspect meeting facilities, hotel
registration, rooms, restaurant allocation for delegates, Conference
venue, meeting venue etc.
CPA Executive Committee chairman Sir Alan Haselhurst is scheduled to
visit Jaffna on February 16 and call on Nothern Province Governor
Maj.Gen.G A Chandrasiri, visit a village where IDPs have been resettled
in the Jaffna district, meet Security Forces personnel in Jaffna and
have discussions with the president and members of the Jaffna Chamber of
Commerce on February 17.
