‘Muslims condemn damage caused to statues in Maldives’

“The Muslim fraternity in Sri Lanka vehemently condemns the damage caused Buddhist statues in the Maldives by extremist gangs. They voiced their anger over this dastardly act. The Muslim community in Sri Lanka always respects other religions”, Western Province Governor Alavi Moulana said.

He said people of all communities in the world should condemn these heinous and extremist attacks as they can damage religious and ethnic harmony.

The Western Province Governor said the Muslim community who are blessed with an opportunity of coexisting with other religions condemned this attack in no uncertain terms. “This is an act of insanity committed by extremist elements. There is no place in Islam to harm any other religion. Islam teaches complete tolerance of other religious rights and customs”, Parliamentarian A.H.M. Azwer said.

Meanwhile, President of the Sri Lanka Ulema Kacchi, Mubharak Abdul Majeed has also condemned the damage caused to Buddhist statues in the Maldives by a violent group. ‘Muslims in Sri Lanka unequivocally condemn any acts of vandalism committed against other religions, he said.
