The Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) celebrates its 30th
anniversary today.
Several ceremonies have been organized by the SLRC to mark the event.
Religious ceremonies representing all religions were held during the
whole day on February 14 to mark the 30th anniversary of the SLRC.
An all night Pirith Chanting ceremony took place on the same day
followed by a Sanghika Dana to 30 Buddhist monks.
The anniversary celebration musical show will take place on February
24 at SLRC premises. The show to be telecast over SLRC on February 26
night.
SLRC has three more channels named Nethra TV (for Tamil viewers),
Channel Eye and NTV (for English viewers).
The National identity of the SLRC faded away somewhat under previous
regimes due to westernization of programmes and presentation styles. But
the National identity was re-established and strengthened under the UPFA
Government led by President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Prominent journalist
Mohan Samaranayake is the current Chairman of the SLRC.
The SLRC was created by an Act of Parliament on January 23, 1982 and
established on February 14, 1982 and commissioned transmission on
February 15, 1982.
