‘No abolishing of farmers’ pension’

Agrarian Services and Wildlife Minister S M Chandrasena said the Farmers’ Pension Scheme will never be abolished.

The minister said this scheme had come to a standstill due to certain administrative lapses regarding the regular collection of premiums and the payment of compensation.

Although this scheme does not come within his ministry’s purview discussions were now being held with the Finance Ministry Secretary to revive this scheme for the benefit of the farmer population.
