Army Lions VB champions

In keeping with Sri Lanka's 64th Independence Day Celebrations, Avissawella Chandra's Sports Club in collaboration with the District Lions Club 306 C-1 organized an open volleyball tournament for the 31st consecutive year, held at the Avissawella Chandra Playground, on February 3,4 and 5.

Many teams from several parts of the country participated.

Sri Lanka Army Lions 'A' team qualified for the finals defeating Dehiowita Debegama "Rantharu" team, while the Air Force team qualified for the finals defeating Puwakpitiya "Nava Mithra" team.

In the finals Sri Lanka Army Lions 'A' team trounced Sri Lanka Air Force team by 4-3 matches and won the championship shield and Rs. 20,000 in cash. The runner-up Sri Lanka Air Force team was awarded a shield and Rs. 15,000 in cash.

No. 7 Roshan Nilanga from Sri Lanka Airforce was adjudged the best spiker, No. 9 Amila Sampath from the Army Team was adjudged the best lifter and Ashan de Mel from the Army was adjudged the best allrounder. They were awarded with mementos and Rs. 1,000 each in cash.
