Dr. J G C Peiris :
Cheerful, honest Jeffrey is no more
Jeffrey kept his tryst with Christ on January 24, 2012 and slipped
into eternity peacefully.
He was a product of Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa, in his early
days, and moved on to S. Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia where he
excelled in studies and sports. He played for the college team and took
part in the big match against Royal. He had a superb Yorker.
He entered Medical College and played cricket for the Colombo
University. He also represented Bloomfield and Nomads Clubs. He was in
the University cricket team that went on to play against a team in
Singapore. It was during his visit to Singapore that he met his
sweetheart, Catherine, way back in 1959 and married her in Sri Lanka in
1960. They richly shared their golden memories in December 2010.
Jeffrey served as the Medical Officer in several stations, finally
ending up as the Medical Officer in the Colombo Municipality.
He migrated to England and served as a General practitioner. His
longest assignment was in Middlesex.
Jeffrey was very attached to his wife and children. He faced the
challenges in life with great determination and achieved his objectives.
To his children he was not only a father, but also a true friend.
Jeffrey was of a very cheerful disposition, honest and trustworthy
and numerous good qualities which held him in high esteem amidst a large
circle of friends. He loved fun and always found time to be with his
friends in whose company he was very cheerful and a source of
inspiration to others. He was a member of the free lances association
comprising six Royalists and six Thomians. We have stuck with allegiance
from our youth, dwindling in numbers due to the fast exodus to the
Elysium Fields.
His children are all settled and well acclimatized to the different
regions in England. Jeffrey has left indelible footprints. May his soul
rest in peace.
