Reference to our story on page one of Feb. 11, titled ‘External
initiatives in Maldives would be unhelpful’, we have inadvertently
referred to the source of our story, Neomal Perera, as ‘acting External
Affairs Deputy Minister, whereas Perera was Acting External Affairs
Minister at the time. We regret the error.
University admission for 17 Menik Farm students
Seventeen students from Vavuniya Menik Farm have gained admission to
the university.
They were internally displaced students pursuing their studies from
the IDP centre. Among them one student has gained admission to medicine.
Resettlement Minister Gunaratne Weerakone has congratulated the
displaced students achievements.
Anuradhapura schools reopen

Five schools in the Anuradhapura Educational Zone, closed for the
Independence Day celebrations and the Deyata Kirula exhibition, will
reopen today.All other schools in the Anuradhapura district will reopen
on Wednesday, North Central Province Education Ministry secretary Ananda
Kularatne said.
Anuradhapura Central College, Swarnapali Balika MV, Walisinghe
Harischandra MV, Zahira MV and Vivekananda MV reopen today.
Man held for wife’s alleged murder

A mother of three was allegedly killed by her husband during an
argument while the couple was keeping watch over a cultivation. The
incident took place in the wee hours of yesterday.
The deceased is M Kalyani, 55, a resident of Hidogama. Police also
recovered a coconut scraper from the scene, suspected to be the murder
weapon.nder the influence of liquor.
The woman died at hospital.
