Jobs for Northern graduates
Unemployed graduates in Jaffna district will be provided with
employment in batches, Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise
Development Minister Douglas Devananda said.

The minister said so, at a meeting he had with the members of the
Unemployed Graduate's Union, at his office in Jaffna on February 01.
The graduates placed before the minister, the problems they face in
their endeavour to obtain employment and sought minister's help to sort
out their problems.
The minister said he would speak to the President about this matter
and come out with a suitable solution and for that he needed their
co-operation, the minister added.
He also said that as and when vacancies occur in the government
departments he would offer such vacancies to the graduates on merit.
Northern Province Governor Maj. Gen. G.A. Chandrasiri, said the
Provincial Council could even now absorb about 170 graduates for jobs in
the fields of mathematics, science, commerce and telecommunication to
those who had pursued their studies in the relevant subjects.
He also said that he would be exploring the possibility of recruiting
graduates to the Provincial Council administrative system. The minister
also said that he wished to remind the TNA that it was significantly
important to make use of the opportunity before them now to move for an
everlasting solution to their political problem as the whole world and
India, especially, were showing a keen interest to have this problem
solved.
The minster pointed out that more than 10,000 LTTE cadres taken into
custody by the Armed Forces had been now released after rehabilitation
and the rest too would be released soon.
The minister also said that Rs 60 million had been allocated, for the
development of Kayts including drinking water and repairs to the road
system, the minister added.
Rs 520 million has been allocated for development of infrastructure
facilities of local government bodies in the North and the building for
Kayts Pradeshiya Sabha, constructed at a cost of Rs 27 million is one of
such building coming under the ongoing project.

Province Jeku, Regional Assistant Commissioner of Local Government
Piranavanathan, Kayts Assistant Government Agent Sri Mohanan, Delft
Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Rajiv, and Velanai Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman
S. Sivarasah also spoke.
