Thomians in six-wicket win over Cambrians

S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia beat Prince of Wales College by six wickets in their inter-school under 19 cricket match worked off at Mount Lavinia. Cambrians commenced their second essay on day two and were all out for 157 runs with some resistance coming off the bat of the skipper Tarindu Dilshan who made 39 runs. Thilaksha Sumanasiri had a good spell of bowling taking 4 for 21 giving him a match bag of 8 for 39. Set to make 63 runs for the victory Thomians notched up the required runs for the loss of four wickets with Javed Bongso unbeaten on 37 while Hashan Fernando claimed 3 for 38.

Prince of Wales - 117 and 157 (Kusal Mendis 25, Ashen Mendis 22, Tarindu Dilshan 39, Sachith Pushpakumara 30, Thilaksha Sumanasiri 4/21, Dinush Peiris 2/26, R. Mathangaweera 2/25.

Superb knock of 143 by Kasun Vidura

Kasun Vidura of Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa made a superb score of 143 runs inclusive of 21 boundaries in their inter-school under 19 cricket match against Royal College, Colombo which concluded at Reid Avenue yesterday.

Royal declared at 239 for seven in their first innings. Left hander Imal Liyanage helped Royal with 67 runs inclusive of eight boundaries and a six well supported by Isuru Gunathilake who made 49 runs inclusive of eight boundaries.Deepankara Peiris (three for 41) and Shavindu Dimantha(two for 72) contained the Royal batting.

Joseph Vaz made 254 for 5 in their innings. Left hander Kasun Vidura helped his alma mater with 143 runs. Devin Pathmanathan was the most impressive of the bowlers with two wickets for 51 runs.

Royal: 239 for 7 declared (Imal Liyanage 67, Isuru Gunathilake 49, Sampath de Silva 33, Chamika Karunaratne 22 n.o., Deepankara Peiris 3 for 41, Shavindu Dimantha 2 for 72).

Joseph Vaz: 254 for 5 (Kasun Vidura 143, Shavindu Dimantha 33, Miyushan Obris 25, Devin Pathmanathan 2 for 51).

Marlon takes 6 for 53 for St Aloysius

Dinushka Marlon of St. Aloysius College bagged six wickets for 53 runs in the first innings of the under 19 inter-school cricket match against St. Joseph’s College which ended at Darley Road yesterday.

St. Joseph’s made 199 in their first innings. Sachin Hewawasam contributed 55 runs inclusive of five boundaries. Dinushka Marlon was the most impressive among the bowlers with six wickets for 53.

St. Aloysius were only able to score 102 runs in their first innings. Dinushka Marlon contributed 34 runs. Yashan Samarasinghe (four for 21) and Priyamal Perera (four for 10) were the main destroyers of St Aloysius innings.

Joes were 81 for two in their second innings. Sadeera Samarawickrama scored 32 not out, while Yashan Samarasinghe was unbeaten on 24 for St. Joseph’s. Dinushka Marlon took two for 26.

St. Joseph’s: 199 (Sachin Hewawasam 55, Priyamal Perera 32, Dinushka Marlon 6 for 53) and 81 for 2 (Sadheera Samarawickrama 32 n.o., Yashan Samarasinghe 24 n.o., Dinushka Marlon 2 for 26).

St. Aloysius: 102 (Dinushka Marlon 34, Yashan Samarasinghe 4 for 21, Priyamal Perera 4 for 10).

Zahira in command

Right arm off spinner Lakshan Edirisinghe of Zahira College captured three wickets for 36 in the first day’s play of the match against Zahira College, Colombo at Maradana yesterday.

Zahira College won the toss and chose to field. Mahinda College were 127 runs in 50.2 overs in their first innings. Left-hander Indeera Gallage knocked 22 while Nirvantha Thikshila scored 21 runs for Mahinda. Lakshan Edirisinghe was the main wrecker with three wickets for 36.

In reply, Zahira College were 117 for three at close. A partnership of 87 runs were made by Imraz Rafi and Mohomed Salman.

The match will resume at 9.30.

Easy for Kegalu Vidyalaya

Kegalu Vidyalaya coasted to their fifth outright win for the season when they defeated Sri Piyaratane Maha Vidyalaya, Padukka by six wickets in their schools under 19 cricket tournament match concluded at the Army grounds, Ambepussa yesterday.

Kegalu Vidyalaya who were set a victory target of 48 with over two sessions of play remaining almost made a mess of it before winning but they lost four wickets in the process.

Sri Piyaratane MV 82 all in 28.2 overs (Akila Chamara 12, Madawa Wishwa 31, Manuwan Liyanage 16, Tharaka Somatillake 3 for 20, Bimshendra Ranaweera 5 for 21) and 164 all out in 39.2 over (D R Kalpa 13, Manuwan Liyanage 33, T Bandara 22, S Sampath 32, T Keerthi 28, Chinthana Bandara 2 for 34, Tharaka Somatillake 2 for 42, Samadhi Dassanayake 2 for 9, Bimshendra Ranaweera 3 for 40).

Kegalu Vidyalaya 202 all out in 39.4 over (Thusitha Prematillake 47, Tharaka Somatillake 63, Shan Chathuranga 35, Samadhi Dassanayake 15 not out, Yasintha Randuna 3 for 52, Manuwan Liyanage 2 for 46, R. Abeyratne 2 for 27, Lakmal Jayaratne 3 for 30) and 48 for 4 in 13.5 over (Wimantha Ratnayake 22, Krishan Narammala 14 not out, Kanishka Wijesuriya 2 for 11).


Sebastianites crush Gurukula

St Sebastians College recorded their sixth outright victory for the season when they beat Gurukula Vidyalaya, Kelaniya by ten wickets in their inter-school under 19 cricket tournament match worked off at Moratuwa.

Resuming at 43 for no loss on day two, Sebs were all out for 210 runs with skipper Amila Aponso making the top score of 64 runs while Shan Fernando and Anushka Perera contributed 44 and 41 runs respectively.

In reply Gurukula were bowled out for a paltry 108 runs with Shavin Fernando claiming 5 for 40 and ably supported by Amila Aponso who returned figures of 4 for 9.

Set to make 61 runs for an outright win, Sebs notched up the required runs without loss with Anushka Perera unbeaten on 46 runs.

Chief scores:

Gurukula Vidyalaya 162 and 108 (Hashan Dumindu 33, Shavin Fernando 5 for 40, Amila Aponso 4 for 9).

St Sebastians (43 for no loss) all out 210 (Amila Aponso 64, Shan Fernando 44, Anushka Perera 41, Luke Jayadeva 20, Dushan Danushka 3 for 33, Nalin Perera 2 for 35, Hashan Dumindu 2 for 41, Roshan Anuruddha 2 for 65 and 61 for no loss (Anushka Perera 46 n.o., Luke Jayadeva 15 n.o.).


Sanka Ramesh (8 for 32) wrecks Ananda Sastralaya

Vidyalian star all-rounder and skipper Sanka Ramesh with a fine spell of bowling ripped through the batting line up of Ananda Sastralaya, Kotte with 8 for 32 to restrict them to 106 runs in their inter-school under 19 cricket match played at Kotte.

At the end of day one Vidyalians were in a strong position with 313 for 8 with Sanka Ramesh hitting a brilliant 141 runs which included twenty three fours and occupying the crease for 127 minutes and Ishan Peiris scoring 119 runs with eighteen fours and a six and occupying the crease for 122 minutes.

Chief scores

Ananda Sastralaya - 104 (G.G.P. Perera 20, Y.R. Thilangana 26, Sanka Ramesh 8/32).

Moratu Vidyalaya - 313/8 (Ishan Peiris 119, Sanka Ramesh 141, H.P. Dabare 3/65, D.D. Kulasuriya 2/45).


Thrilling draw at Giriulla

Despite a hat-trick by off spinner A.A.V. Kavinda for Taxila Vidyalaya, Horana they were held to a cliff hanger draw by Wayamba Royal College, Kurunegala in their inter-school cricket match concluded at Giriulla yesterday.

Taxila Maha Vidyalaya who gained a first innings lead of 98, made 129 all out in the second innings leaving Wayamba Royal College the task of scoring 228 to win 30 overs.

Wayamba Royal College were cruising well with the score at 124 for 2 in 15 overs when off spinner Kavinda Struck with a hat-trick sending three front line batsmen to the pavilion and the score slumped to 124 for 5.

He took a little time for Wayamba Royal to overcome this sudden shock and they still 11 runs away from the target with two wickets in hand when time ran out for them.

Taxila Maha Vidyalaya 245 all out in 23.5 overs (D. Sampath 51, A.L. Kannangara 71, N.T. Perera 28, T. Kavindu 28, Neomal Panditha 2 for 50, Yasith Herath 5 for 43) and 129 all out in 42.4 overs (D. Sampath 60, C. Uran 32, Tilina Sampath 3 for 18, Ravindu Tennakoon 3 for 9, Yasith Herath 2 for 34).

Wayamba Royal College 147 all out in 36.5 overs (Neomal Panditha 10, Yasodh Kavinda 31, Hasanka Lahiru 28, Akila Withanage 30, Subodh Sanka 12 not out, N.T. Perera 3 for 5, S. Kumara 4 for 37) and 217 for 8 in 30 overs (Neomal Panditha 39, Yasodh Kavinda 40, Tharenda Ekanayake 30, Amila Withanage 30 not out, Arvinda Senanayake 19 not out, A.A.V. Kavinda 4 for 31).
