Will invest Rs 3 billion:
BOI zones to be upgraded
The Board of Investment (BOI) will invest Rs 3
billion to upgrade the twelve BOI zones in the country to be model
zones within the next three years. BOI Executive Director Technical
Services Sunil De Silva said the model zones will have all
facilities required by the investors to benchmark with any
international BOI zone once the work is completed.

Targets US $ 1 b export earning:
Batik industry making strong comeback
The Sri Lankan batik industry is making a strong
comeback and is poised to be a US $ one billion export earning
industry in two years. One of the pioneering legends in the
industry, Eric Suriyasena said that the main reason for business to
rebound is the growth in tourism. “With tourism picking up there is
a tendency in sales picking up locally as well,” he added. He said
that currently the trade’s earnings are around US $ 300 million and
the main sales are overseas.

After two months in operation:
Southern Expressway revenue Rs 151 million
The Sri Lanka Government has earned over Rs 151
million from the Southern Expressway within two months of opening.
The Southern Expressway is the first expressway in the country which
was opened on November 27 last year. Southern Expressway Acting
Director B.D.K Bandara told Daily News Business that Rs 70 million
out of the total of Rs 151 million had been earned from the Southern
Expressway during January. The administration records show an
earning of Rs 4.6 million during the Independence Day.
