'Voters responsible for politicians' misdeeds'

'Voters are responsible for all the wrongs committed by politicians. It is the public which has given power to the wrong persons by voting them into power. They are destroying the country misusing power, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister Dr Rajitha Senaratne said.

"Destroying the country through misused power has created a very pathetic situation in Sri Lanka. The media has to play a vital role in exposing corrupt individuals. The media has a major responsibility in the country's journey towards the Wonder Of Asia," he added. The minister was addressing a special meeting of the National Media Professionals' Forum at the ministry recently. "Politicians and journalists should have a correct vision.

If there is no correct vision in politicians and journalists, they cannot lead the country to development. Journalism is a powerful profession. Politicians and media personnel can destroy a country. They also can make the world a pleasant place to live," the minister said.

"Politicians and media personnel should think twice before deciding to publish something. They are always dealing with the public and the country's future also depends on things that politicians and media personnel do," he said.
