The first Mega Coop City supermarket built in Eppawala town was recently opened by Co-operative and Internal Trade Minister Johnston Fernando. The government had
spent around Rs 16.5 million on this supermarket. Consumers have the opportunity to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables and all other consumer products at fair prices from
Mega Coop City supermarkets. Another two Mega Coop Cities have already been opened at Medawachchiya and Kahatagasdigiliya. Here Minister Johnston Fernando inspecting

The Colombo YMBA celebrating the 2600th year of Sambuddathva Jayanthi, awarded 100
scholarships to undergraduates with outstanding academic achievements from among low
income group families. This year's scholarship awards ceremony was held at the YMBA main Hall, Borella. The ceremony was presided by Colombo YMBA President Suren Abeyagoonasekara. Members of the Board of Governors, Board of Management, donors of scholarships, parents and invitees were also present. The welcome speech was delivered by Vice President M Ariyaratne while Abeyagoonasekara delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the importance of youths participation in the country's religious and social development. An Alumini Association of the scholarship recipients was also installed to give strength and encouragement to recipients who are obtaining university scholarship awards through the Colombo YMBA in large numbers over the past several years. H V Jayanthi Lakmali, a recipient undergraduate from the University of Colombo, proposed the vote of thanks on behalf of the 100 recipients.
