N’eliya Airport in Seeta Eliya

The domestic airport allocated to Nuwara Eliya district will be
located in Seeta Eliya.
Aviation Ministry officials inspected the site on February 6.
Nuwara Eliya district secretary D P G Kumarasiri said a 50 acre site
has been reserved for the airport.
Tourism mobile service at Deyata Kirula

The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority has taken measures to
conduct a two day tourism mobile service in the Anuradhapura district
simultaneously to the Deyata Kirula National Development Exhibition.
They are to conduct this mobile service on February 9 and 10 at the
National Holiday Resort in Anuradhapura.
All arrangements are in place to register tourism related
institutions, such as, tourist hotels, restaurants and holiday
bungalows.
Licenses related to the tourism industry for the year 2012 will also
be issued at this mobile service.
All instructions on investing and marketing in the tourism industry
and renewal of licenses of institutions which are already registered
will also be done at this mobile service.
The Tourism Development Authority will also conduct a training
programme for personnel involved with the tourism industry on February 8
at the Sri Lanka Tourism and Hotels Management Institution's divisional
school in Anuradhapura.

Veteran journalist D.F. Kariyakarawana 90 today
D F Kariyakarawana, the veteran journalist, will be 90 years today.
Kariyakarawana who was the Editor of many papers retired in 1982 from
the post of Chief Editor of Silumina, Janata, Yowun Janata and Kreeda.
He was also the president of Sri Lanka Press Association for many
years and a vice president of International Organization of Journalists
(IOJ) for 14 years from 1974. During that period he travelled widely.
He was also the founder of the Diploma in Journalism at Colombo
University in 1986. He served there for 20 years.
Exercise books for 500 students
Muslim Aid donated 1500 exercise books to 500 students who took part
recently in the last National Safety Day which took place at the
'Hizbullah Hall", Kattankudy.
Muslim Aid supports to provide primary education for underprivileged
kids in the country.
Kattankudy in Batticaloa is one of the hardest hit areas by the
Tsunami. About1,260 houses were fully damaged and 505 were partially
destroyed in the area. The Muslim Aid organization also promotes
education among those who have not had the opportunity to go to school
on a regular basis due to poverty or other reasons.
Kaluwala, nature's gift

Kaluwala, is a waterfall situated in Paleegala five kilometres off
Eheliyagoda which can be described as a gift from Mother Nature. Though
small in size, the Kaluwala waterfall supplies water to the 50 acre
Paleegala paddy field.
The surrounding area is rich with a variety of flora and fauna. The
sweet churping of birds has made this place a nature paradise, putting
the Sabaragamuwa Province on the tourist map. The Kaluwala waterfall and
surrounding area has not only become a big draw with local tourists, but
also among the Eheliyagoda folk who come in large numbers to bathe and
for enjoyment.
Cattle rustlers nabbed

The Police Special Task Force (STF) arrested three cattle rustlers in
Kebithigollewa while transporting cattle illegally on Monday.
The STF also seized 15 cattle worth Rs 500,000 from the suspects'
possession. The three suspects were arrested at Vihara Halmillewa in
Kebithigollewa. The suspects are residents of Gonuhathdenawa and
Pahalagama in Kebithigollewa.
Lightning warning from Met Dept

The Meteorology Department requested the public to take adequate
precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning. It stated that
showers or thundershowers will develop in most parts of the island,
particularly during the afternoon or evening today.
It stated that there may be temporary localized fairly strong winds
during thundershowers. Showers will continue in the Northern, Eastern,
Uva and North-Central provinces and along the Eastern slopes of the
Central hills. Fairly heavy falls are also expected at some places.

The 37th Annual General Meeting of the Sri Lanka Council for the
Blind will be held on February 10 at 10 am at the National YWCA
Auditorium 7, Rotunda Garden, Colombo 3.
