The broadband speed test
|
Most broadband users experience problems with the speed of their
Internet connections. There is a great deal of confusion for Sri Lankans
in picking the most appropriate Broadband Service providers. Though
there are details jotted down in the packages, there is no reliable
means in which the users are able to keep tabs on the broadband speed.
The Sri Lankan Expertise at Telecommunication Regulatory Commission,
Sri Lanka, had come up with the answer to this much debated about
problem.
They have introduced a speed testing regulator. This allows users to
check the internet speed by downloading three sizes of data files: 1
mega bite (MB), 5MB and 10 MB.
These data files are located in a United states of America (USA) and
Europe server which is owned by the Telecommunications Regulatory
Comission of Sri Lanka (TRSCL). When you log onto www.trc.gov.lk, there
is a tab named ‘Broadband Speed Test.’ Then there is an option for you
to select the location: USA or Europe.
For instance when you select the USA tab, it directs you to the USA
based speed checking category. The targeted testing data file is located
in the USA server in this instance. It is vital to select one file from
three available files that needed to be download. Once you have decided
on your choice, click on the start button and you will get the results
that you have been trying to locate for years!
First you get a brief description about your broadband speed.
Then it contains a comparison of the speed. It also includes
information about the service provider.
This system is developed in the JAVA based platform. Therefore it is
essential to have JAVA installed in your computer.
Login to www.trc.gov.lk to experience this system.
