Maya Krishna Rao’s demonstration
The well known theatre personality from India, Maya Krishna Rao will
be conducting a lecture cum demonstration on Contemporary Theatre
Practices at 9 am on February 8 at the auditorium of the University of
Visual and Performing Arts, No.21 Albert Crescent, Colombo 7.
Maya Krishna Rao is known for her solo as well as group creations.
She has had training in Kathakali in Delhi and Kerala. She is
specialized in male roles and had several performances in India and
abroad in Ramayana and Mahabharata as well as Shakespeare’s Othello.
In theater she handles a big range of acting including dance theater,
street theater, comedy, cabaret and kathakali. Through her creations she
tries to analyze socio-political as well as human issues. As a theatre
activist she did Participatory programmes for children and she is a
founder member of the street theater group called 'Theatre Union.' Maya
Krishna Rao, was an associate Professor of acting in National School of
Drama, New Delhi and actor, Theatre Company, Nottingham, England and a
lecturer in Political Science at Delhi University. She has done
postgraduation in Political Studies as well as theatre arts. She has
choreographed for films and participated in many theater festivals held
in various parts of the world. |
