Gimantha - youngest Lankan at Asian Chess C'ships

Gimantha Gayasha Kiriella, a grade two student at St. Peter's College
Colombo 3 became the youngest contestant to represent Sri Lanka at the
seventh Asian Chess Championship which was held at Indira Gandhi Indoor
Stadium in New Delhi, India recently.
He has succeeded many events he had competed so far, including
victories at the (best on board-under 8) western province Team Chess
Championship in 2010, Colombo District Youth Rapid Chess Championship
and All Island Inter School Chess championships in the same year. One of
his recent achievements is winning the all-island inter-school
individual chess championships 2011.
He qualified for the Asian championships when he clinched the Under-7
'A' title of the All-Island inter-schools individual chess
championships.
