OpenArc offers ‘job oriented’ degree programme for school leavers

If one did not get the expected results in the Advanced Level examination there is no reason for one to fret. Now, with or without good results in the Advanced Level examination, one can become an ICT professional. The University of Colombo School of Computing, has now introduced a new gateway to enter the Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) external degree programme. The Foundation of Information Technology (FIT) programme allows one to gain the required equivalent qualification to enter the BIT programme.

FIT consists of three core modules, Mathematics, English and ICT Applications. Upon successful completion of the above core modules, students may gain entry to the BIT. Core topics covered at the FIT level will be a definite benefit for students sitting for the BIT first semester examinations.

HNB Yauwanabhimana empowering Sri Lankan youth

The first HNB youth empowerment programme in Colombo, was launched recently under the umbrella of HNB Yauwanabhimana. HNB Yauwanabhimana, with the slogan “empowering the youth of Sri Lanka”, Youth Empowerment Programme was launched at HNB Towers. This programme sees the participation and collaboration of many blue chip corporates in the country such as CIC, Dialog, DIMO, Hayleys, Holcim and leading educational institutions such as the British Council, the Colombo University and the World University Services Canada. These corporations and institutions have joined with HNB in this endeavour to make youth more employable individuals expanding their horizons towards endless potential and opportunities that rest beyond formal education mediums. Employability and dignity of labour are key objectives of this programme that sees the inclusion of young people between the ages of 18-30 years.

The first youth empowerment programme in Colombo saw over 140 young girls and boys attending from Colombo and suburban areas with varying backgrounds, educational levels and ethnicities.

The programme was enriched by the corporate partners giving introductions to the services they offer, what possibilities are there for youth in respective fields of corporate business, construction, telecommunication, agriculture, motor mechanism, English language skills development the ways in which they can help youth in terms of knowledge sharing, technical knowhow and assistance, commercial arrangements, industry best practice and emphasizing on becoming an employable youth than focusing solely on paper based qualifications.

The programme gave a chance for youth to have one to one contact with the top personnel of the top management and directors of the corporate partners.


Mobitel launches video surveillance technology

The National Mobile Service Provider Mobitel, in partnership with TeleEye, a leading world-class supplier of remote visual CCTV management systems based in Hong Kong, introduced the world’s most advanced ‘real-time’ video surveillance technology in Sri Lanka, complete with SMAC-M multi streaming.

Be it the monitoring of the office premises and its operations, or one’s residence, the surveillance solution package enables customers to gain visual access to the location that is under close monitoring via the advanced technical equipment provided by TeleEye.

Customers can as a result monitor their property on their smartphones via an App (Application) or the Internet as all leading smartphone operating systems are compatible with this application, which can be downloaded and installed once the service has been activated.
