Twenty eight injured in bus mishap

Twenty eight persons were injured when a bus plunged down a steep slope at Yainna, Koskella on the Kahawatte - Andana road yesterday morning. Police said 18 male passengers, the bus driver, seven women, a boy and a girl were among the injured who were admitted to Kahawatte Hospital. Five were later transferred to Ratnapura Hospital. Kahawatte Police are investigating.

Meanwhile, STF officers raided a three and a half acre cannabis cultivation in Batahirakanda, Embilipitiya in the Tanamalwila Police area on January 1 and seized 4,000 cannabis plants.

The STF handed over a sample of the cannabis to Buttala Police and destroyed the stock. Investigations are on to arrest the suspects.

Meanwhile, Galle STF officers raided an illicit distillery in Pathwarawa, Kotagoda in Akmeemana Police area and arrested a suspect with 69 bottles of illicit arrack and two goda barrels.

The suspect of Kuruduwaththa, Kotagoda was handed over to Akmeemana Police with the seized goods, valued at Rs 24,000.
