Novel anti-crime drive in New Year
The CCTV camera system is to be modernized by
introducing a programme for automated facial recognition and
automated number plate recognition to curtail illegal activities in
Colombo, according to the IGP’s plans for 2012.

Twenty eight injured in bus mishap
Twenty eight persons were injured when a bus
plunged down a steep slope at Yainna, Koskella on the Kahawatte -
Andana road yesterday morning. Police said 18 male passengers, the
bus driver, seven women, a boy and a girl were among the injured who
were admitted to Kahawatte Hospital. Five were later transferred to
Ratnapura Hospital. Kahawatte Police are investigating.
