Drunk father attacks son

A drunk father had stabbed his son injuring the son's head seriously.
The victim was admitted to the Dambulla base hospital.
According to the police, the injured boy is residing in Walgamwewa
area while his mother is abroad on employment. He is living with his
grandmother with his sister.
Dambulla police are investigating.
Road needs repairing

About six kilometres of the road in the Maskeliya area situated
between Maskeliya D side junction and Gardmari which was repaired six
months ago by the Road Development Authority, Central Province, is once
again in a poor condition.
The public say that the authorities had not done a good job on the
road that time.
Talk on wildlife
The Indian Cultural Centre, Colombo in association with the
Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies (BCIS) and Ruk Rakaganno
will be organizing a lecture titled, Tigers in the wild, delivered by
Valmik Thapar on January 9 at 6.30 pm at the BCIS auditorium, BMICH.
Valmik Thapar is an Indian natural historian and a wild life documentary
film maker.
He is the author of 14 books and several articles, and has produced a
range of television programmes. Thapar is one of India's most famous
wildlife experts and conservationists, having produced and narrated
documentaries on India's natural habitat for the BBC and Animal Planet,
Discovery and National Geographic channels.
His most recent book is The Last Tiger published by Oxford University
Press.
WBBF to propagate Buddhist ethics

The World Buddhist Business Forum (WBBF) will take action to
propagate Buddhist ethics worldwide.
The World Buddhist Business Forum will also launch a programme to
introduce teachings of the Buddha regarding business activities, All
Ceylon Buddhist Congress President Jagath Sumathipala said.
The second session of the WBBF was held under the patronage of Taiwan
Prime Minister Liu Chao-shiuan in Taipei in December last year. Around
250 delegates from 17 Buddhist countries participated. The World
Buddhist Business Forum is an affiliated organization of the World
Buddhist Forum.
The World Buddhist Business Forum was organized by the Lay Buddhist
Association in Taiwan and Taiwan Buddhist Federation.
Projects to increase fish harvest

Measures are in place to increase the fish harvest to 686,000 metric
tons by next year and the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development
Ministry will introduce a number of programmes this year to achieve that
target, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister Dr.Rajitha
Senaratne issuing a New Year message said.
In 2009 the local fish harvest was 339,730 metric tons and in 2010 it
had increased to 384,670 metric tons. Last year the fish harvest was
395,870 metric tons. The ministry will increase North and East fish
harvest by 43 percent and deep sea and shallow sea fish harvest will
also be increased by 194 percent. Plans are also in place to double the
inland fisheries harvest as well. |
