The minister made these comments while addressing the employees of
the Mass Media and Information Ministry and the Government Information
Department yesterday. The minister reminded that there was a time in
this country when the people gave up hopes of tomorrow.
“Those who could afford sold their properties and sent children
overseas to save their lives and with the hope of providing them a
better life.
He said that families avoided joint travel. The people travelled only
if it could not be avoided due to fear of bomb attacks and terrorist
activities. He said that when the country was undergoing continued
destruction, President Mahinda Rajapaksa took the bold decision of
rallying around the Security Forces and the patriotic masses to confront
the terrorists and eliminate them from the soil of the country.
He said that this decision was taken by the President when some
political groups, NGO pundits and foreign elements claimed that the
terrorists cannot be defeated militarily and their demands, which were
detrimental to the sovereignty of the country, should be granted.
He said the country was considered as a failed state internationally
due to negative propaganda carried out by certain foreign funded local
elements. This obstructed foreign investments in the country. He said
the youth of today grew up in a country that had an uncertain tomorrow.
Public servants spent half of their life being unable to contribute to
the welfare of the country.
The minister said due to the leadership provided by the President,
the dark era was eliminated. The country has been making rapid progress
with an unprecedented economic growth with the dawn of peace.
Ministry Secretary W.B. Ganegala also spoke. Government Information
Director General Professor Ariyaratne Atugala was also present. |
