Modern bus stand for Karainagar

A modern bus stand is being built at Valanthalai junction in Karainagar with sanitary and rest room facilities at a cost of Rs.15 lakhs by the Karainagar Welfare Society in London.

M.Ed. Course inaugurated

The Master of Education (M.Ed) course will be inaugurated in Jaffna on January 19. The course will be inaugurated by Education Minister Bandula Gunawardane and Director of National Education Institute W.M. Abeyratna Banda. This course was so far been conducted at Maharagama and now for the first time it will be held in Jaffna. Many students from Jaffna district will be benefitted by the inauguration of the course in Jaffna.

Seventy five schools to be developed

Seventy five schools in the twelve education zones in Jaffna district have been selected for development under the thousand schools development scheme in 2012-13 on a priority basis.

In the Northern Province eight schools from Jaffna Education zone, six schools from Vadamaradchchi Education zone, nine schools from Valigamam Education zone, four schools from Thenmaradchy zone and six schools from the Islands division totalling 33 schools have been selected for development. Seven schools from Kilinochchi Education zone, six schools from Thunukkai Education zone and four schools from Mullaitivu Education zone have also been selected.

House burgled at midnight

The house of one Navaratnam of Kachchai road, third Lane Chavakachcheri has been burgled at midnight on the Christmas day and 40 gold jewellery items and Rs 20,000 have been stolen. The robbers had made use of a rice pounder to wrench off the iron grill. The Police said that the modus operandi adopted in the theft conclusively proves that a small boy had been used to gain entry into the house through the wrenched off grill. The Chavakachcheri Police are investigating.

Foundation stone laid

The foundation stone laying of the rehabilitated 900-year-old Sivan temple at Chavakachcheri magistrate’s court complex was laid on last Friday by President’s Counsel Shantha Abimanyasingham and Chavakachcheri District judge M. Ganesharajah.
