‘Rhythm of the Maroons’, a musical extravaganza

A unique circle of music from Ananda College for over 36 years have
gifted many talented musicians to the Sri Lankan theater. Such
outstanding personalities are Bhathiya Jayakody, Kasun Kalhara,
Indrachapa Liyanage, Sahan Ranwala to name a few.
This unique group, the Music Circle of the Ananda College since its
inception in 1975 have shaped and sharpened talented buds of the college
paving the path for them to emerge as great musicians. It was in 2006
that the Music Circle took a new challenging path – the ‘Rhythm of the
Maroons’.
A fine combination of eastern and western music giving a novel
experience to the enthusiastic children as well as to the classical
listeners.
For its successful fifth time ‘Rhythm of the Maroons’ was held
recently that entertained a large number of music lovers. The musical
extravaganza had the participation of over 100 children of Ananda. The
chief guest of the event was Chairman of Bank of Ceylon Dr Gamini
Wickramasinghe another proud product of the Ananda College.
“Rhythm of the Maroons is a place where the tunes play for a cause.
This would guide the child to bring entertainment with value,” said
Principal of Ananda College L M D Dharmasena.
“Musicians born from Ananda are members of this Music Circle. We want
to continue even in the future. It brings such happiness to see the
‘Rhythm of Maroons’ a success,” Teacher in Charge of Music, K M
Ratnapala said.
