Ranaweera outstanding

R.M.P.M. Ranaweera of Trinity College, Kandy is an outstanding athlete who established two new meet records at the Kandy District Kids and Junior Athletic Championship held recently at the Bogambara Grounds, Kandy.

Ranaweera clocked 11.01 secds in the 80 metres and 13.07 secds in the 100 metres flat races competing in the under 12 age category. He was awarded Best Performers Award at the meet for the above achievements.

He came 2nd in the under 12 - 100 metres at the Sir John Tarbot Junior Championship held in Colombo this year. Ranaweera started his athletic career as a Gr. VI student of Trinity College, Kandy and became the champion athlete of the junior school. He continued till 2011 as the champion athlete of his age group. Ranaweera is coached by the former Director of Sports (Central Province) H.G. Ariyaratne.
