Superb century by Jason Perera

St Benedict’s College skipper Jason Perera scored his third century of the season in the under 19 division one cricket match against St Peter’s College which began at Bambalapitiya yesterday.

Though Peterites won the toss, they chose to field. St Benedict’s were able to score 308 for 6 in 80 overs before declaring their first innings. Jason Perera was the most impressive among the batsmen and scored 140 runs including 20 boundaries. He was well supported by Sameera Sandamal (51), Madura Madushanka (47) and Praveen Gunawardana (30). Ali Khan bagged two for 38 while Julian de Zilwa got three for 81.

St Peter’s scored 49 for 2 in 13 overs at the end of the first day. Shashin Fernando contributed 22 runs to St Peter’s score while Shehan Fernando also supported the Peterites with 13 runs. Sachin Peiris was the most impressive of the Benedictine bowlers taking two wickets for 25 runs.

The match will be resumed today at 9.30 am.
