Trinity in command

Trinity College were right on top at the end of the first day’s play
in their inter-school cricket match against Nalanda College, Colombo
which began at the Asgiriya Stadium, Kandy yesterday. The match will be
continued today at 9.30 am.
The strong Trinity College batting line up did not find run getting
easy against varied Nalanda attack skipper and opener Niroshan Dickwella
steadied the early innings with a fine knock of 47 with 7 fours. There
was a middle order batting before Dinuk Wickramanayake stopped a
possible collapse in scoring 57 with eight fours and he was supported by
tail-ender Alwin Fernando who made 20. Medium pacer Koshan Dhanush
bowled best to capture 5 for 54.
When Nalanda College batted they struggled for runs specially against
the spinners. They were 18 for 4 at one stage looked as if they will be
dismissed for a total than 50. At close they had scored 36 for 5 off 37
overs averaging less than a run per over. Leg spinner Akila Jayasundera
looked virtually unplayable taking 4 for 5 off 9 overs with 7 of them
being maidens.
Nalandians will have to score a further 79 runs to avoid the follow
on and if they fail to get these runs, then they could find themselves
in danger of losing the match.

Ibbagamuwa win
Ibbagamuwa Central College scored a nine-wicket win over Wayamba
Royal College, Kurunegala in their inter-school cricket match concluded
at Ibbagamuwa yesterday.
The match winner for Ibbagamuwa Central was Shehan Dharmapriya who
scored 105 and also captured 4 for 22 in Wayamba Royal’s second innings.
Fifteen year old Thenuka Liyanage too bowled this leg spinners to a
tidy length to capture 4 for 4 and 5 for 56 to end up with match figures
of 9 for 60 for Ibbagamuwa Central.
Wayamba Royal College 103 all out and 171 all out in 34.3 overs (T J
Arachchi 70, N T Sampath 49, A S Jayasinghe 20, Shehan Dharmapriya 4 for
22, Thenuka Liyanage 5 for 56).
Ibbagamuwa Central College 258 for 9 overnight 263 all out in 70.3
overs (I B Ratnayake 2 for 32, J H Senanayake 2 for 26) and 12 for 1 in
4.1 overs.
Innings win for Matale Thomians
A good all-round performance by Sri Lanka Under-19 cricketer Lahiru
Madusanka helped S Thomas’ College, Matale to score an innings and 70
run win over St Sebastian’s College, Katuneriya in their inter-school
cricket match concluded at Katuneriya yesterday.
Lahiru Madusanka top scored with an elegant 143 which was studded
with seven sixes and 17 fours off only 105 deliveries. He also had a
match-bag of 6 for 72.
St Thomas’ College, Matale: 330 for 7 declared in 64 overs (Lahiru
Madusanka 143, N J Kennedy 51, A S Wijegunawardena 50, S Tillekasiri 31,
R Fernando 2 for 60, J Malith 2 for 79, N Geeth 2 for 18).
St Sebastian’s College, Katuneriya: 166 all out in 45.2 overs (N
Janapriya 27, P Lakshan 31, Lahiru Madusanka 4 for 64, T Udupihilla 3
for 36) and 94 all out in 36 overs (T Lakshan 24, Lahiru Madusanka 2 for
8, Tissa Wijewansa 4 for 31, S N Wijetunga 3 for 41).
Drawn match
Kingswood College held St Sylvester’s College to a draw in their
inter-school cricket match concluded at University Grounds, Peradeniya
yesterday.
The Kingswoodians were set a victory target of 189 in 36 overs and
they were 67 for 5 when play was called off.
St Sylvester’s College: 137 all out in 55.5 overs (Ruwantha Ekanayake
34, Dilan Mel 22, T Hettiarachchi 18, S Madushan 14 n.o, Faiz Ahamed 12,
